Weaving mechanism of semi-loop carpet
In the following articles, we will examine the weaving method of semi-rolled carpets, technical points, characteristics and differences of semi-rolled carpets and flat carpets. In the previous articles, it was stated that flat weave is a mechanism in carpet weaving that only thin weft is used in each row of the weave, and flat weave carpets do not have thick weft, and for this reason, all the piles of the carpet are placed in one row and next to each other. But in half-level carpets, all the threads of the carpet are located around the row, and as a result, the threads below and above can be distinguished and separated. There are two ways to make the half-tube weave, which we will discuss each of them below.
How to weave half-roll carpet
When weaving the carpet, if the weaver does not use a thin weft for any reason and only passes the thick weft in the form of a row in the middle, the woven carpet will have a semi-loop mechanism. Among the samples of semi-loll carpets, we can mention the original Il Bakhtiari carpets, Sanandaj and Farahan carpets, which are woven by the mentioned method and only by passing one row through the thick weft. The working method is that the thick weft is stretched one row in between, so the thick weft never passes above and below the cross. In this way, the texture is not complete like the texture of revolving motifs, and the revolving lines lack full flexibility and curvature and become semi-geometric. Compared to the flat weaving method, the length and width of the knots in the half-tube method have changes in such a way that the width of the knot is reduced and its length is slightly increased; But again, the width of the knot is greater than its length, so the motifs remain in a state between broken and twisted. In the semi-loop mechanism, the piles are transferred one by one to the back of the carpet due to the pressure of the thick weft, and this happens when the thick weft also passes over the cross. Therefore, the method of recognizing and identifying half-level carpets is the small vertical white lines that can be seen from the back of the carpet in a row from the beginning to the end of the carpet. In the semi-loop method, the thickness of the thick weft is usually the same as the chela thread and sometimes even more than that, and when it passes over the cross and is beaten using the daftin, it pushes the cheleis below to the back of the carpet.
Another method of semi-loop carpet weaving
In this method, the rugs are placed in two rows below and above, but because the weft passes above the cross row, the back view of the carpet is more orderly and coherent, and on the other hand, the texture of the rotating motifs is more complete. The way of weaving in this method is that after finishing each row of weaving, first the under weft is passed and then the upper weft, but again the thickness of the wefts is less than to completely square the cross section of the knots. In this method, the thickness of the weft threads is less than that of the weft thread, and the weft stretch is not enough to make the distance between the wefts the maximum possible. Currently, this method of weeding is completely obsolete, except for a few areas. The old carpets of the city of Nain and even some of the famous urban carpets of the city of Arak were woven in this way in the old days.
The main characteristics of half-level carpets
According to what has been said, the following items can be counted among the most important features of half-level carpets:
- In the texture of these carpets, only one thick weft is often used in the form of one row in between. Sometimes, they use two wefts in the weave, but with less thickness than chele thread.
- The revolving motifs in this way of weaving are semi-geometric.
- On the back of half-roll carpets, white weft threads can often be seen along the vertical length of the carpet.
- In this method, the bunches are turned upside down one at a time with a little distance.
